This winter has been hard on our chickens. Since the laws have changed and started protecting the mountain lion they have grown in numbers. They have come out of the unpopulated areas ever seeking more food. The chickens, dogs and cats have become their source for food. It is not difficult for them to catch pets as they are generally kept in small areas of less than 5 acres and are easily trapped. Other predators are also becoming very prevalent. Animals such as Coyotes and Bear are often seen going through the trash cans. We have had to discontinue letting our chickens run in our pasture because of the mortality rate.
